Vittadhum pidichadhum

After quite a long gap, I caught up with some recent episodes(conservative moms vs new-age moms) of Neeya, naana. It was a 2 part episode with part 1 dealing with cooking(Amma cooking Vs wife cooking), romance(Ennanga vs poda porukki!)etc while the second part was about the tug-of-war between the old and new style of parenting. Parenting is tough and for the present generation parents there is the Eastern-western conflict! The true aadha I am, I was siding with some points this side and some points that side! It was surprising when Gopinath concluded with reference to some Irish research which states parents/moms acting as an extended hand(as against letting the kids be independant) until atleast their children are 12/13 yrs of age as "the best parenting"!!!

I had been looking forward to Parthiban & his daughter Keerthana's episode in Coffee with Anu but missed it when it was shown here. So, I went hunting for the episode online and clicked on the date I had missed the show. Anu started talking about her guests' father-daughter relationship and in came Sarathkumar! It was around the time that Sarath-Radhika were all teary eyed about Jaggubai's unofficial release on the net/VCDs before its official release and for a minute I forgot that the programmes of Vijai TV shown here are a week behind and thought "ada paavigala, TV programmes kooda early release on the net-a"!

Too much to catch up with(moochu vaangudhu!!) in movies, music, books, blogs...!! Had I been a cell user in India, "iktara" would've been my ringtone. Vat a song!! With Kollywood (Annathey manichukonga!) all gone very serious and scary and sentimental(Pre "Tamil padam"), I had to knock bollywood for some timepass(read romantic comedies) movies and ended up watching "Wake up Sid", "Jaane tu ya jaane na" etc. Any timepass movie suggestions? Nambikkai natchathirangala(Kadhal Bharath, Dishyum Jeeva), ippadi thadam maari poreengaley da!!

One scientific flaw per film please!- Yaarukkavadhu kaadhula vizhugudha?

me2,
i'm not so sure how much genuine are indian talk shows and why they should be different from arattaiarangam where people mug up nice-sounding opinions and vomit. Make no mistake, it is very hard for originality in parenting in indian culture since our culture frowns at independent thinking: infant sucks up to kid->sucks up to parent->sucks up to colleague/neighbor->sucks up to Neighborhood BigShot.

I saw the episode...I think Gopinath does a pretty good job too...my only complaint is the program comes pretty late at night...[FYI: I try to go to sleep by 9:00 at the max 9:30]

I liked the next one too...on saapadu

I saw Thamizh Padam, Asal, Goa, Naanayam, Kutti and VTV...VTV is better than the rest...but no way close to the aha-oho pugzhal that is happening in blogsphere...of all i think i wasted my 10 dollar on thamizh padam...

ttm, you never cease to amaze me!!
I've never been into talk shows much. This one is just a jolly time pass show(and I would be happy to watch a shortened version like cricket highlights!)

me, ya, the timing is really bad. But there are repeat shows on one of the weekday mornings and Sunday mornings. The saapadu show seemed a little one sided!!
"I saw Thamizh Padam, Asal, Goa, Naanayam, Kutti and VTV" - Eppadi ipdillaam... I recently watched "Oram Po" which was super fun(now you would know how much of a backlog I have!).

me2,
It is a very depressing reality that the more exceptional and gifted one is, or the more monetarily successful, the more abnormal they become.

Apart from a Tendulkar and V.Anand, not sure with which successful person an average middle class person can relate to. Kumble in some ways a wifestealer, Dhanraj and Leander total psychos in real life to interact with, iconic tamil cinema directors being nityanandas in their own right - pretty hard to sit through cinema/sport after getting the insider's view. Kamal as performing seal? fine. As my friend? No!

Grooming kids to hold 10 to 5 Indian Bank job is the way to go, it seems!

ttm, that's a sad reality! I often wondered about this personal/professional extremes in the exceptionally talented especially during arguements when people often attack the personality to defeat me!
Your tone seems so unusual!!

me2,
thats precisely because if the "achievers" would have remained mediocre if they have been 9 to 5 types like us! It is our middle class culture of worshipping the extreme-achievers in their successes and beating them up in their setbacks that's to blame. It's perfectly honorable for someone to choose a modest low-profile lifestyle, keeping out of the rat race.

Goleman's books on Social Intelligence and Emotional Intelligence are good.

ttm, I am reminded of my Dad's often repeated proverb, "Podhum enra manamey pon seiyum marundhu"!
I will add Ecological Intelligence too in addition to your suggestions!
