Dreams

Have you had weird dreams that are crazily disconnected memories with a nice flow?

Recently I had this dream:
I am at a small self-serve kind of eatery. I find Aamir Khan(!!) standing in a corner chatting with some people. By the time I decide on what to order, Aamir seems to have dissappeared! I am so upset that I didn't even attempt to get an autograph from him! I see my order(is that an uthappam?) getting ready but suddenly my husband rushes me(meaning asking me to forget about the uthappam!!) to get into the bus! Though I thought it was a bus, I am sitting like a witch on a broom, zooming past!! I see a big vehicle(an army truck?) coming towards us and I am scared it is going to slam into ours. Instead, it becomes an amphibious vehicle and floats in the near-by water-way!! We zoom past a busy town and then it stops near a big wooden gate which has 'Mandir' written on it. Suddenly the gate opens vertically upwards like in Sci-fi movies. Finding no-one inside, the vehicle again starts... And then I woke up!!

In my crazy dream, I can explain some of them like the eatery - The night before I had been chatting with a friend who has recently moved to Canada and we both were telling each other about eating at Saravana Bhavan! Aamir Khan - Been reading a lot about his latest movie 'Rang De Basanti'. Army truck - Probably the images of our Republic Day parade or Iraq. For others I am still digging my subconscious mind!!!

There are some dreams that I want to know if they mean something. Especially, recurring ones! I used to get this dream where I am in an examination hall but absolutely unprepared. Infact, I would have got to know what subject I am appearing for only then and would be frantically trying to learn something! To my relief, I haven't been getting this dream for a while now. These days it has been replaced by dreams about brilliant celestial/aircraft displays on the sky almost always ending in disaster. Probably its due to the 9/11 memory that has got etched in my mind!

Dreams dreams.. Always weird..

Surpringly, I used to get the 'unprepared exam' dreams quite often, especially it was English in my college. Though I got I class in it, I dont remember now what I studied.. whereas, I remember every other subject. That is the problem. And, this dream would come whenever there is a low point in my profession (work not moving well). A disturbed mind connects it to the same thing..

dreams are just fascinating... and urs was an adventure... i get many similar dreams and to my surprise remember them atleast for a while after i wake up... i had posted something on dreams long back... i think that dreams are/is something that the subconsciuos mind expressing something and this something is more of what your body, mind and spirit has processed (things like the various thoughts, emotions, actions, spritual beliefs, influence of other people around you, what you see/observe, etc.,) over time...

u should try and wake up in the middle of a dream :-)... while u r in the dream world, sometimes u do realize that it is a dream :-)

I guess we were all traumatized by the exam experiences :-) I can completely identify with that one.
Another dream that repeats is about falling.
Mind is a curious thing, may be your subconscious is telling you something :-)

Have you read Queen of Dreams by Chitra Divakaruni B?

Raju, probably true. Some disturbance in our life sure was reflected thro' the dream.

Balaji, its only a few dreams like this one that I remember vividly! Most of the time, only a part of my dream will come as a flash and I would twist and turn my mind to recollect the rest!!

Karthik, true, dreams sometime digs out the things that are 'conveniently forget' category for us! Ya, many a times I have realised during a dream that it is a dream!

Smiley, wow! Pleasure is mine!

Munimma, "may be your subconscious is telling you something" - I too believe so! 'Queen of Dreams', eh? Will add it to my 'to read' list!!

Nice synopsis on your dreams. If you are interested in the subject, try reading "Interpretation of your dreams" by Sigmund Freud.

Of course, many dreams have meanings, like for instance if you see death, then, its actually a good omen. If you see crows fighting, it means there will a quarrel in the family. My favorite belief is that dreams that wake you up in the wee morning hours are the ones that come true.

Mitr, will add Freud's book to my to-read list!! You believe in 'early morning dreams come true'?

Sai Thilak, yes, sometimes you won't know whether it had happened in real or in dream!!

A very interesting and inexhaustible topic!
Even at the risk of stating the obvious, to quote Freud, dreams are either about fears or desires.
