Ooru vittu ooru vandhu!!

Hey, I'm back! Even though the computer was among the first things to be set-up along with the "can't-live-without" list of things, with many other boxes still lying around un-opened/ half opened, I just couldn't 'think outside the box(es)'!!!

So, we have atlast escaped the cold North and are in the process of settling down in the warm(the temperatures have been hitting 60s and even 70s, a bit too warm for this time of the year even for GA Standards, it seems!) South. The move itself was fairly smooth sailing(touch wood!) and with the U S of A being uniform through-out in almost every aspect, it didn't take too long to get back to routine.

The move had been quite something for my daughter as it was her first experience. The first few days, she thought this was another vacation and kept asking when we were going home! After a while, whenever I had to answer, 'we are going home' to her, 'where are we going now?', she would ask, 'which home?'!!! LOL!!

Moving is not new to me. Since my childhood, I have experienced move to different houses, different states etc. I wonder how I managed to adjust to new schools, new languages, new cultures(within the country itself!!) every few years. More bewildering is how my mother managed packing(without u-haul boxes, tapes!!), shifting, unpacking, arranging things etc. with kids & elders!!

welcome to south!! Glad to know that everything went well.. the weather down south has been fluctuating.. surprisingly, it gets cold (0 and below) only during weekends and the weekdays are pleasant..

I have moved so far only three times.. and my parents only once.. It is indeed very hectic.. Get settled slowly.. and this friday melody would be Pongal special? (hehee.. once a while I have to play spoilsport).. :-)

Good to see you back after your move to the South. I bet you would have been glad to leave the cold Boston winter.

Yes, the move and settling down is definitely easier in US than back in India. But, still i hate to move, unpack etc within the same place. Yes, moving to another state is like starting life all over again.

Hope you settle down soon and see you on Friday Melody for Pongal.

Raju, thanks. BTW, 'Sivaji'-kkunnu ille, inime engala visit pannavum GA trip adikkalaam!! Pongal spl-a? Poruthirundhu paarunga!!

Mitr, Good to see you too! I don't like the packing(as people will point out to my collections and say 'thooki podu') but I like unpacking and arranging things which I am currently enjoying doing!

Vijay Ramamurthi said... though I have moved only once in the US, I have moved 10-15 times during my childhood...studied in 8 schools some times 6 months in one school...

Have a wonderful year ahead..!!:)

glad that the moving went easy :-)... US la moving is probably easy as its uniform through-out... moving in India is quite an effort i guess... but inge kooda the packers and movers concept is picking up!!..

good to hear your moving was easy!.....

take care and love for ur daughter

i like moving because the times i've moved, i got rid of so much junk during the packing process. and as raju said, the unpacking and arranging is always fun.

anyways, welcome back :)

Welcome back!. Good that your moving went without hitches. So you guys drove?.

Me too said...

Vijay, namma set-ta! New year wishes to you too!

Karthik, it's not just about the packing and moving but the differences in language, culture everything is all the more hectic in India.

Vishnu, thanks.

Ash, very true. Like I wrote in another blog, the exposure helped me to tune myself, acquire great friendships, see many places.

Balaji, true about the junk elimination! After quite a while, our house is spic and span and ready for Pongal!!

Deepak, yes, we came driving(1000+ miles!!)! May be you can plan a trip here too sometime soon!

I extend my invitation to all of you to visit us in the warm South!!

Munimma said...

Aparna, yes, welcome to the South. Although the driving in Atlanta is as crazy as big cities up north.

Just today morning, I looked around at the clutter in my house and thought that the only way to clean up would be to move ;-)

Glad to see you back in action.
