Mumbai Monsoon

Monsoon rains during June/July in Mumbai(and most of Westcoast of India) is as regular and casual for the Mumbaiwalles as heat for the Chennai makkal. Though every year atleast one day the nature will stun the uninterruptable Mumbaites to take notice of it. I remember a time when I came wading thro' knee deep water from Sion to Matunga. And one year, Appa could not come home from office because of train cancellation due to power failure and reached home the next day afternoon thoughtfully with a packet of milk!!

This year I guess, nature did not want India to feel left out in its record-breaking streak[the rains(944.2 mm) seems to have surpassed Cherapunji's 95-year-old record of 833 mm(as reported in The Pioneer)]! Hope, as always, Bombay would bounce back from this latest setback.

P.S. - With the Westcoast(Gujrat, Maharashtra) of India battling excess water and the Eastcoast from water shortage, I just feel like tilting the plane for the excess water to flow onto the other side!! If only that was possible!!

Keerthi, I know! None of my friends have responded to my e-mails. I am just hoping they are home safely probably without power that they have not replied.

Hi... my sister was also stranded in office for two days...

but the thing i love abt Mumbai is that it rains or shines Mumbai moves on...

you know the NDTV headline said.. Train stops, bus stops even the rain stops but the Mumbai people will never stop..

almost everybody braved the water and were walking back home and the best part is that those who were had reached homes safe were on the streets distributing Chai and Biscuits for those who were returning home...

and in some Jain temples they were serving breakfast.. lunch and dinner and had opened out the temple for people to stay in the night so that they could continue there journey in the morning...

three cheers to Mumbaikars and i wonder whether these Chennaites will ever care to do such things.. they are happy to just lock in and sit as it starts raining and keep scolding the weather....
